My parents took Tanya for the weekend again. My Mom is actually bringing her back tomorrow and only because Mom has a doctor's appointment. So Bear and I had a nice, more relaxing weekend again. Or at least when we didn't stress over Olivia's rash.

On Saturday morning we took a nice long walk. We wanted to check out our local library branch and go to a few stores. Bear needed to reactivate his card and I wanted to see if they had some movies. And they did - I got Arrival, Fantastic Beasts and Moonlight. Very exciting! We watched Arrival over the weekend, and Bear copied the others to watch later, at some point.

As I was checking out different genres and shelves, I heard someone calling my name. It was Marianna's Dad, Martin. He was on his computer at one of the tables. It turns out that Marianna's Mom works at this branch and her Dad dropped her off and was hanging out. It was nice to see him - I know Marianna's family for almost 23 years now. Bear was waiting outside with the stroller, as we took turns going into the library since I don't want to take the baby inside a public place, so Martin went to meet the baby, while I watched his computer. Now, Bear did met him before a few times, mostly at Tanya and Ida's joint birthday parties and other occasions. But it has been a while and Bear didn't really remember him. So he sees this guy coming toward him with his arms out, and he thinks 'what did I do now'. And Martin doesn't tell him right away who he is but does this in a round about way, as is his humor. Pretty amusing.

On Sunday, we were mostly home. Olivia's rash was getting better all week, it was almost gone by Friday. But it was starting to get worse on Saturday. It might have been a different diaper we were using. So I started to stress about it. This morning, Bear went to work and I decided to take her to the doctor.

It was just me with no car but Google told me it would be a 33 minute walk. So I called, made an appointment and I took Olivia in her stroller. It was really hot to walk but this was necessary. And Google didn't lie. It took 34 minutes. The doctor ordered more creams for us and checked Olivia out and made me feel better. And I was also glad to have her weighed and measured. She gained about pound and a half in one month and grew an inch taller, with her head 2cm bigger. So that's good. I always worry if she's eating enough and it is nice to know that she is. We'll keep fighting this rash.

We got home after 1pm and she had a long nap in the afternoon, so the day went much quicker than usual.

I don't know if it'll help because everyone is different, but for Pod, I used Pampers Sensitive and then I put vaseline on his butt so it's like a barrier from his diaper. Once I started using pampers sensitive and doing the vaseline, he barely had any diaper rashes.

We use vaseline all the time on the regular basis and it worked great with Tanya. Will go back to that once the rash clears. I think it was Pampers Dry that was causing it. We are trying Huggies now. Hopefully that will work. If not, I do want to try Pampers Sensitive. We definitely had less rash issues with Tanya. Olivia is blonder, maybe her skin is more sensitive too.

I watched Fantastic Beasts and Moonlight a while back and loved them both :)

I hope you're able to get rid of the rash soon!

I would be stressing about a persistent rash lkke that too.   Did the dr say what they think it is?  My baby's all had suuuuper sensitive skin.  It's one of the reasons we cloth diapered-  less chance of a reaction to the chemicals often found in disposables.  Even some of the supposed more environmentally friendly diapers contain nasty additives :(  We tried some supposed environmentally friendly diapers, Naty or something like that, and the rash my son got was horrible!  I spoke to a couple friends about it and their kids got the same rash!

I think a dr prescribing creams is normal,  however, it's not going to get to the root of the issue especially if the rash is being caused by diapers or even a food intolerance.   Obviously at 5 weeks baby isn't eating, but some kids react to the proteins in either their formula or mom's breastmilk and it can cause a nasty rash repeatedly :(  I have experience with that as well.  My daughter could not tolerate me eating nightshades while nursing.   If I did, she was super cranky and her entire system would be off.

I strongly suspect diapers and maybe me eating peanut M&Ms. Diapers for sure. We had Huggies but then started using Pampers Dry that our in-laws got us. I never liked their cloying scent. As the rash got worse we switched to new Huggies and it was getting better. But then we ran out and my Mom went back to Pampers. I think that's why the rash came back. I made Bear go get Huggies again. It seems to be helping. We are also not using wipes at all right now, just water and soft cloth.

The doctor thinks it was an infection, like someone had a cold and it manifested in a rash on a baby, but she's not sure. I really think it was diapers.

I cut out all cabbages, broccoli etc from my diet as they seemed to be making Olivia gassy.

I hope switching back to the Huggies or another brand works for you! Having a baby with an irritable/painful rash is no fun for anyone :( We ditched all those kinds of diapers and went with either Seventh Generation or the Honest Co. when we traveling on holiday. Otherwise we used cloth at home or while running errands :) I have super, super sensitive skin so I knew my kids were more than likely going to get that from me and yup, they did!

Breastfeeding and how the foods we eat can and often affect babies can be such a mystery! My daughter was definitely, definitely sensitive to nightshades. My youngest was as well but I know he had other sensitivities that I wasn't able to identify until he was a couple months old.

Good luck moving forward! Five weeks is still so little xx I keep thinking about how I'll be navigating life with another newborn by the end of the year!

What did we do without Google to tell us where to go and how long it will take?! Technology is great that way :0)
